Dopo un’analisi dettagliata degli aspetti riguardanti il settore dell’educazione, della ricerca e dell’innovazione (ERI), il Consiglio dei PF sostiene pienamente l’obiettivo del Consiglio federale di proseguire la via bilaterale grazie al pacchetto di accordi negoziati.
Nella riunione del 9 e 10 luglio 2025, il Consiglio dei PF ha preso atto delle dimissioni di Vanessa Wood dalla carica di vicepresidente dell’ETH di Zurigo. Vanessa Wood lascerà la Direzione a fine dicembre 2025 e continuerà a guidare il suo team di ricerca.
Il Settore dei PF teme che la normativa presentata possa ostacolare l'innovazione e impedire lo sfruttamento del potenziale economico e sociale.
Il Consiglio dei PF sostiene gli obiettivi del Consiglio federale di sviluppare ulteriormente le relazioni bilaterali con l'UE e di renderle più sostenibili in futuro con il pacchetto negoziale Bilaterali III.
Il 6 giugno 2025 il Consiglio federale ha nominato Martin Keller e Matthias Leuenberger nel Consiglio dei politecnici federali (Consiglio dei PF). Martin Keller entrerà in carica il 1° agosto 2025, succedendo a Christiane Leister, deceduta a inizio marzo. Matthias Leuenberger subentrerà invece a Susan Gasser, il cui mandato scade a fine 2025, a partire dal 1° gennaio 2026.
Su richiesta della prof.ssa Anna Fontcuberta, presidente dell’EPFL, il Consiglio dei PF ha nominato Adrian Wägli nuovo membro della Direzione. Il dott. Adrian Wägli succede a Matthias Gäumann e dal 1° dicembre 2025 assumerà la vicepresidenza per le operazioni (VPO).
Il Consiglio dei PF e le istituzioni del Settore dei PF accolgono con grande favore la prevista modifica dell'articolo 21 della legge sugli stranieri e l'integrazione (LStrI) e le misure già entrate in vigore a livello amministrativo, che facilitano l'accesso al mercato del lavoro per le persone provenienti da Paesi terzi che hanno seguito una formazione in Svizzera.
Nella sua seduta del 21 e 22 maggio 2025, il Consiglio dei PF ha nominato Matthias Sulzer nuovo membro della Direzione dell’Empa e ha avviato la fase preparatoria per la nomina della nuova persona che dal 2027 assumerà la carica di presidente dell’ETH di Zurigo.
Il Consiglio dei PF ha nominato 2 professoresse e 10 professori, assegnato 3 titoli di professore e 2 titoli di Professor of Practice e ringraziato 12 professoresse e professori uscenti.
In linea con il suo impegno a favore della politica climatica della Confederazione, che mira a raggiungere l'obiettivo di zero emissioni nette entro il 2050, il Consiglio dei PF sostiene un approvvigionamento energetico sicuro, rispettoso del clima e dell'ambiente.
Nella seduta del 5 e 6 marzo 2025, il Consiglio dei PF ha preso atto della decisione del presidente dell’ETH di Zurigo Joël Mesot di rinunciare a un terzo mandato.

Der ETH-Rat und die sechs Institutionen des ETH-Bereichs haben Anfang 2024 acht Ziele definiert, welche im Rahmen des Organisationsentwicklungsprojekts «FIT for the Future» erreicht werden sollen. Dazu wurde bei den Institutionen des ETH-Bereichs von August bis Oktober 2024 eine interne Vorkonsultation durchgeführt.Der gemeinsame Nenner, wonach alle Institutionen eine intensivere Zusammenarbeit und eine verstärkte strategische Koordination unterstützen, bildete die Grundlage für den Richtungsentscheid des ETH-Rats. Im Rahmen der Strategie- und Strukturentwicklung des ETH-Bereichs möchte der ETH-Rat die Forschungsanstalten im Verbund stärken und als prägenden dritten Pfeiler des ETH-Bereichs zu einem «Swiss National Lab» (SNL, Arbeitstitel) weiterentwickeln. Die Brands der Forschungsanstalten, die von grossem Wert und bei den Stakeholdern sehr bekannt sind, sowie deren Standorte bleiben erhalten. Als neue Einheit unter dem gemeinsamen Dach soll die «Digital Unit» entstehen mit Hauptsitz in der Romandie.
Seit dem letzten Newsletter ist im Projekt FIT for the Future viel geschehen: In Workshops haben die Institutionen des ETH-Bereichs den geplanten dritten starken Pfeiler des ETH-Bereichs weiter konkretisiert. Der ETH-Rat lässt Varianten mit unterschiedlichen Graden der Integration der Forschungsanstalten erarbeiten. Michael O. Hengartner beantwortet Fragen dazu.
