The ETH Board supports the Federal Council's objectives of further developing bilateral relations with the EU and making them fit for the future with the Bilateral III package.

On 6 June the Federal Council appointed Martin Keller and Matthias Leuenberger to the ETH Board. Martin Keller will take office on 1 August, succeeding Christiane Leister, who passed away at the beginning of March. From 1 January 2026 Matthias Leuenberger will succeed Susan Gasser, whose term of office comes to an end in December.

Upon application of the President of EPFL, Prof. Anna Fontcuberta, the ETH Board is appointing Dr Adrian Wägli as a new member of the Executive Board. He will thus succeed Matthias Gäumann and will take over the Vice Presidency for Operations (VPO) from 1 December 2025.

At its meeting of 21/22 May, the ETH Board appointed Matthias Sulzer as a new Member of the Directorate at Empa and launched the procedure for appointing a new President of ETH Zurich as of 2027.

The ETH Board appointed two women and ten men as professors and awarded the title of professor to three individuals and the title of Professor of Practice to two individuals. It also took note of the resignation of 12 professors and thanked them for their services.

The ETH Board welcomes the publication of the text of the agreement on the European programmes negotiated as part of the overall Bilaterals III package between Switzerland and the EU. It is pleased that the approval of the agreement on the European programmes by the Federal Council means that the provisional association with the Horizon package could be confirmed once it is signed, which is due to take place in November 2025.

At its meeting of 5/6 March, the ETH Board took note of the decision of the President of ETH Zurich, Joël Mesot, not to stand for a third term of office, and appointed Annette Oxenius as the new member of the Executive Board of ETH Zurich.

The ETH Board appointed a total of nine women and nine men as professors and awarded the title of professor to six individuals and the title of Professor of Practice to two individuals. It also took note of the resignation of eight professors and thanked them for their services.

The ETH Domain has a great deal of interest in stable relationships with the EU. The free movement of persons is particularly important as is participation in the EU’s programmes for research, education and innovation.
