Dr Tobias Walser

Tobias Walser studied environmental sciences at ETH Zurich and obtained his doctorate there in the field of risk assessment of nanomaterials in 2012. Among other honours, he was awarded the prestigious Swiss Aerosol Award in 2012 for his outstanding, interdisciplinary work on the dispersion of nanomaterials. A key aspect of his academic work and publications is the combination of life-cycle assessment methods with risk assessments, with a view to providing a sound basis for decision-making by policymakers, public authorities and industry. Since 2022 he has been Managing Director of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich. As a strategic leader, he has wide-ranging experience in the areas of governance, institutional development and multi-stakeholder coordination within both ETH Zurich and the wider research landscape. In parallel, he is involved in various strategic initiatives at the intersection of technology, regulation and practice.
