Appointment of Thomas Scheiber to the Executive Board of ETH Zurich

On the proposal of the President of ETH Zurich, Professor Joël Mesot, the ETH Board has appointed Thomas Scheiber as a member of the Executive Board. He will succeed Professor Ulrich Weidmann as Vice President for Infrastructure and Sustainability with effect from 1 April 2027.

The Vice Presidency for Infrastructure and Sustainability acts as ETH Zurich’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and is responsible for the university’s physical and digital infrastructure. Its core tasks include the management and development of the university’s property portfolio, from construction to building maintenance, as well as the management of the information and communication technology infrastructure and the library. Since 2025, the Vice Presidency has also been responsible for promoting, implementing and coordinating ETH Zurich’s sustainability activities.

Thomas Scheiber holds a degree in facility management from the University of Applied Sciences in Kufstein, Austria, and an Executive MBA from the University of St Gallen. He has over twenty years’ experience in senior management roles in infrastructure, property and services. He joined Bilfinger HSG FM in 2003, rising through the ranks to the extended management team, before joining the management team of Apleona HSG Switzerland as COO in 2014. He subsequently led Apleona Austria as CEO and oversaw the post-merger integration of Apleona Switzerland. Since 2022, he has again served as COO and member of the management team of Apleona Switzerland AG, one of the country’s largest property and infrastructure services organisations, where he is responsible for over 1,000 staff members. He has successfully led transformation programmes and developed digital, sustainable and user-centred operating models.
