The EUPA agreement and its related protocols are a key element of Bilaterals III and will enable Switzerland\u2019s association with the world\u2019s largest and most prestigious programmes for the promotion of research, innovation and education. The ETH Board welcomes this step towards stabilising the bilateral relations between Switzerland and the EU.<\/p>\n
Switzerland thus regains its seat at the negotiating table alongside the Member States and other associated third countries, to decide on the direction of projects that will be supported at European level until the end of 2027 and to define the framework of future EU programmes as of 2028. Swiss researchers and innovators will not only be able to participate in almost all the opportunities offered by Horizon Europe, Euratom and Digital Europe, but will also have full access to calls for projects in strategic areas (artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, communication and network technologies, and space-related topics). From now on, they will be able to lead and coordinate projects funded directly by the EU.<\/p>\n
By signing the agreement, Switzerland gains the status of a third country associated with the European programmes. This ensures a retroactive association with Horizon Europe, Euratom and Digital Europe with effect from 1 January 2025, as well as association with ITER from 2026 and Erasmus+ from 2027.<\/p>\n
The ETH Board is delighted that Switzerland’s association with the EU programmes has been confirmed. Nevertheless, it points out that association with future EU programmes from 2028 onwards will only be possible if the Bilaterals III package is supported by Parliament and the Swiss people.<\/p>\n
Association with the EU programmes, which complement Switzerland\u2019s own funding instruments, is a key factor in ensuring Switzerland’s international competitiveness. The ETH Board is convinced that the strengthening of stable relations with the EU, thanks to Bilaterals III, will make it possible to secure favourable conditions for the institutions of the ETH Domain and for the entire Swiss research and education landscape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
